Who is a Climate Leader?

Who is a Climate Change Leader (CCL)?

Climate leaders selected are dynamic innovators who are driven to combat climate change and foster sustainable development. Coming from a range of backgrounds, the Climate Leaders are recognized as up-and-coming individuals in their field. They have an entrepreneurial spirit, they are willing to be challenged and have a passion for influencing India’s future development.

What sectors do they work in?

The Climate Leaders Initiative plans to undertake projects in line with the Government of India’s National Action Plan (NAP) on Climate Change. The reason for working on the sectors defined by the NAP is to field test the Government’s plan at the ground level. This will allow us gain information and experience on how the government’s goals can be applied to the target areas and provide feedback on whether the missions are sound and feasible.

From this we can identify those areas where the NAP is successful in achieving its objectives and, conversely, those in which it is deficient and what steps can be taken to improve upon it.

The key sectors of focus, therefore, are:

    1. Solar Energy
    2. Energy Efficiency
    3. Sustainable Habitats
    4. Integrated Water Resource Management
    5. Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem
    6. Greening India
    7. Sustainable Agriculture
    8. Gaining Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change
